Shopping & Entertainment in Carmarthen

Welcome

A warm welcome from Mike Pugh, Centre Manager

Welcome to what will be a great addition to Carmarthen’s already thriving Town Centre.

With so many new stores and a real feast of family leisure and eating opportunities we hope to satisfy the needs of both our local residents and the big influx of tourists the town enjoys every Summer.

Mike Pugh, The Manager of St Catherine's Walk Shopping Centre

Unlike so many Shopping Centres that go quiet in the evening we want the St Catherine’s Centre to provide activity throughout the week. That’s why we are so pleased to be bringing new restaurants to the town and of course our mould breaking Apollo Cinema.

We have also organised a packed timetable of fun for the family and intend to continue to play a big part in local life with international street entertainment and a showcase for the many young performers that live within Carmarthenshire.

If you represent a local group, sports club or charity, get in touch, The St Catherine’s Walk Centre is keen to be at the heart of community and well as the economy.

A little information about Mike.

Mike Pugh has been appointed as Centre Manager of St Catherine’s Walk, the new 245,000 sq ft Shopping and Leisure development in the heart of Carmarthen. Mike brings over 36 years of international experience in retail, leisure, hospitality and shopping centre management to the position and has been working most recently as Director of Mall Varna, a 950,000 sq. ft complex in Bulgaria, which opened its doors in June 2009.

“It’s fantastic to be back in Wales” says Mike, “My grandparents lived in Llanfechin near Welshpool and I have both lived and worked in Cardiff and Pontypridd. I’m very excited about the opportunities the St Catherine’s Walk scheme can deliver to Carmarthen.”

“The line-up of new and bigger stores, alongside Apollo Cinema and international restaurants, represents a real vote of confidence in Carmarthen. My job will be to ensure that the new facilities are integrated into the town centre to attract more shoppers and tourists to Carmarthen,” enthuses Mike. “Everyone on the project is committed to raising the profile of Carmarthen and maintaining the pressure to attract more business throughout the year – not just at peak seasons but in the quieter times.”

“As well as playing our part in Carmarthen’s commercial life, we want to create a focus for the local community and within the scheme the architects have created a new public square where we would like to see performances and displays to reflect the artistic and sporting excellence for which this part of Wales is renowned,” says Mike, himself an enthusiastic fell runner. “We will welcome suggestions as to how St Catherine’s Walk can participate in local life, so as to build on the existing calendar of activities and ensure that the town centre stays vibrant from morning to evening, when the cinema and restaurants take over from the stores in attracting visitors.”
